Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms. It is absolutely fundamental in the development of a well rounded dancer. Not only does ballet develop technique, posture, strength, flexibility, musicality and coordination but it also teaches discipline, which is essential to a serious student. All of our ballet classes concentrate on teaching students ballet positions and steps, proper terminology, correct alignment and acute body awareness. Classes will emphasize traditional barre exercises, center and corner work as well as a variety of short ballet variations (classic choreography from famous ballets) throughout the year. Students will also explore Floor Bar (ballet based stretching and toning exercises using the floor as the barre). All classes offered are open with no set syllabus, which results in students being well versed in various styles and techniques. However, all ballet classes will be based on the fundamental principles found in the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus. These ballet classes will NOT be leading towards examinations, as we stress the importance of learning a variety of styles and exercises on a weekly basis. However, for students who are interested in taking any RAD syllabus examinations, we will be offering private and semi-private classes for that specific purpose. BALLET |
